Introduction

Although Madison is considered a relatively healthytown within New Jersey, it still experiences all of the same health issues as the rest of the country. It is important to keep track of the health problems that are prevalent in our town and the surrounding areas. More information on the town can be found here at their website.

Results

Diabetes is a debilitating disease that affects the amount of sugar in your blood, leading to other serious health issues. Diabetes prevalence of the United States is provided by the CDC and their CDC Places online database. These are estimates based on census and public health surveillance data. The map is split into four census tracts consisting of a population of about 5,000 each.

Results

As of 2021, the population of Madison is about 17,000. The average percentage of people in Madison diagnosed with Diabetes is about 6.8%. The average rate of diabetes for the entire country is around 11.6%. The northern quadrant has the highest percentage of diabetes at 7.8%. The top left quadrant is the lowest at 5.1%. The bottom two quadrants sit at about 7% with a .1% difference between the two.

Conclusion

Being able to accurately estimate health issues across the country can benefit the direction of resources needed to help the areas in higher crisis. According to the data provided about the town of Madison, we have a much lower rate of diabetes compared to the rest of the country. The NJSHAD(New Jersey State Health Assesment Data) has provided state-wide estimates of the diabetes rates and indicates that it continues to grow each year. It is important for us to have access to this changing information in order to enact preventative measures in places that need it.

This data was compiled by the collaboration between the CDC, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the CDC Foundation. It provides estimated census data for 36 different diseases, prevention measures. health status, disability, and health risk behaviors.
