Pharmacies

Updated Pharmacies Map

Madison is a small area that houses only three pharmacies. Access to pharmacies for students and members of the community is an essential practice in order to keep the wellbeing of our community in good health. Looking into a pharmacy layer by HIFLD, we found that the infrastructure data was mislabeled and had the wrong information attached to the points located in Madison.

Original Pharmacies Map

The data attached to the three pharmacies in Madison linked to different areas in New Jersey and one linked to Pennsylvania. Existing in three different counties, we decided to update this information attached to the map within the Madison boundary to allow easier access for residents.

We proceeded to find the correct data, which includes addresses, telephone numbers, and websites, as well as the correct city, state and county. We started with the pharmacy located in Stop and Shop on Main Street. This was followed by the pharmacy located in Walgreens on Main Street, as well as the local family-owned Madison Pharmacy.

Having access to the correct information about pharmacies in the area allows for students as well as members of the community, to have easier access to healthcare and health products. This is important for the general wellbeing of Madison, NJ. Pharmacy access allows for the availability of prescriptions, as well as other significant benefits, such as COVID-19 testing and various vaccinations. With random spikes in cases of Covid-19, it is evident that access to all forms of the vaccine is essential to communities.

HILFD was established in 2002 to provide open-access to foundation-level geospatial data. Inmaculada Hernandez at Division of Clinical Pharmacy is an author who writes about the importance of pharmacies and their services.
